Dr. George

Training

  • Dr. George Sherman, DO, is a locally-trained family physician who grew up in Amherst, Virginia and is licensed to practice in Virginia.  He completed a Bachelor’s of Science in cellular and molecular biology at Liberty University before attending the Liberty University College of Osteopathic Medicine.  Upon graduation, he underwent specialty training in family medicine at the Lynchburg Family Medicine Residency.  As a family physician, he has extensive training in pediatrics, adult care, geriatrics, and women’s health.

Physician Experience

  • Dr. Sherman has spent his career serving the people of Lynchburg and its surrounding counties as a family physician.  Before starting his direct primary care practice, he treated thousands of patients at all stages of life and across the full spectrum of health ranging from newborn babies in the clinic to critically ill patients in the ICU.  During his time working in the hospital, he also managed physician teams that provided around-the-clock coverage for severely ill patients.  Through these experiences, he found his passion for outpatient medicine, where he can partner with patients and help them live healthy and happy lives.

Philosophy

  • Dr. Sherman believes the best medicine usually is found in maintaining or restoring the body’s function through natural means.  He loves researching and discussing with patients how they can best support their health through their lifestyle, and he has a particular interest in healthy eating and exercise.  It is when lifestyle management is insufficient that he believes in the thoughtful application of evidence-based medical interventions to restore or maintain good health.  He chose direct primary care because it affords him the time to carefully listen to his patients, get to know them, and work with them holistically–not just as a series of symptoms, but as complete people.
